Driving through a sunny Halifax

We started the year with plenty of walking........we walk lots more in the winter/autumn time than we seem to in the spring/summer months.

So we walked in Shropshire (see previous post)

Skipton

and now I want to show you a couple of other walks we have done since the new year began.

As usual our walks start with a lovely lunch this time here at the Three Sheep Tea Rooms in Skipton.

 Then we walked along the canal.

 Passed the Pie and Mash Shop

Nipped into my favourite shop in Skipton.

 and took a peep inside the town hall.

Then we drove up to Airton. We were going to do a walk from a Paul Hannon Short Scenic Walks book, this one from the Malhamdale book, walk number 9.

 Airton Village green with the stocks above where we parked the car.

 Mills on the river now apartments and houses.

We followed the river...it was a bit muddy under foot.

 Then our path took us up the lane.

The sun was starting to go down and we enjoyed the last of it's rays.

 Shoulbreads Laithe, a lovely old farm building.

In the photos above and below you can see the distinctive lychets, the cultivation terraces of early farmers.

 Time to wash the muddy boots

 Through the farmyard and into the hamlet of Calton.

Down the track out of Calton.

 Over the river and back to Airton

I did say at the beginning of this post I would show you a couple of walks but I think this post is quite long enough!
