A Right Royal Day and Scavenger Hunt Photos

Last Saturday I went to Hope and Elvis for a workshop with the lovely Louise.

I love going to workshops there

It is such a creative place...you just can't help yourself

It was a workshop called A Right Royal Party and I was aiming to start a Family Flag Of History.

It was a lovely small group so I could nag Louise without feeling guilty.

First decide on which vintage Union Jack to purchase

then scan and print photos onto transfer paper

next take five attempts to get transfers onto the fabric!

then after that I start to put patchwork frames around each picture....ask Louise for advice

I only manage to place the photos, and before I know it it is 4pm and time to leave.

I think I will be doing a kind of family tree layout...what do you think?

This is a blurred photo of me on our street on the morning of our Silver Jubilee Street Party in 1977

And this is my mum in her late teens when she worked in the Isle of Man for the summer season as a chambermaid in a Bed and Breakfast.

I promised Louise I would email a photo of my flag when it is finished.

 So we are off on a break next week. Tomorrow is our Jubilee Party at school and if I can I will read some of your blogs tomorrow evening, I do realise that I have neglected you all a lot recently....so sorry!

The Red, White and Blue

Last Sunday we had some friends round for a get together.

These are friends I made when working at John Lewis many years ago.

Friends that get together only a couple of times a year but when we do it seems like only a few days ago.

We all get on so well and we spent the day having a catch up and a good laugh.

I decided this time to have a bit of a theme in honour of the Queens Diamond Jubilee.

I baked all Friday evening and after we came back from Haworth on Saturday.

There was jelly and cakes for the children

and lemon and elderflower cup cakes for the adults
I got the recipe from here.

And plenty of other goodies.

the sun even came out so we were able to sit in the garden!

I made a Jubilee brooch for the occasion.
The garden has been looking very pretty with the apple blossom this year.

I got these beautiful flowers off one of my friends last Saturday too.

They smell wonderful!

Now I must dash...I'm off on a workshop tomorrow at Hope and Elvis...A Right Royal Tea Party.
But I will leave you with a photo of a visitor we had early one morning.

I am so tired now. Sunday evening and I am ready for bed. It has been a very busy weekend. First Saturday....

1940's Weekend in Haworth.

It was so very cold!

We were glad of the fire in the waiting room.

After the short train journey we hopped on the waiting vintage bus to take us up to the top of the village.

Then it was just a matter of wandering up and down the streets to see all the effort people had put in to make this another wonderful event.

We both agreed though there didn't seem quite as many taking part this year...although there were plenty of visitors not much reenactment was going on.

They usually have a GI camp in the park and a lot more vehicles but they were not there this year.

Still the ones that were there seemed to have a very good time!

some got a bit bored with the whole thing!

We waited for ages for the Spitfire Flypast....then it didn't arrive!

You can see how busy it was!

I loved this girl's hair.

There is only so many times a girl can walk up and down a cobbled hill in heels so it was back to the station for home.

And out of the dress for another year!
