An Adventure part two

 Sorry it has been a few weeks since I wrote part one. Here goes with part two of our Spanish Adventure.

As I said we left mid morning for a train from Madrid to Barcelona.

Hubby was very excited as the train got up to 301 KM an hour!

The hotel was lovely but this time not in the centre of the city. We spent lots of money on taxi's this holiday! It was a good 20-25 minutes drive away so we tended to go into the city after breakfast and stay until after our evening meal before getting a taxi back to the hotel.

So we dropped off our bags and headed straight to Placa de Catalunya. All the fountains in Barcelona have been switched off and are dry as they have had very little rain during the winter.

Of course we first walked down La Rambla

Then we walked around the medieval streets of Barri Gotic

That night we ate at La Poma, a restaurant that had a robot doing waiter service!

Then we wandered around the quiet streets.

We stumbled upon the Cathedral.

We heard this busker playing near the cloister, it was beautiful. We stood for quite a while listening to him.

Then after breakfast we got a taxi to La Ramblas and the market.

We bought some 'crisps' to go with our lunch.

We had booked a ticket to go inside Sagrada Familia at 10.30am and this was the first glimpse we had of it as we turned the corner. I did visit Barcelona in 2018 with my mum and said I would return to the Sagrada Familia one day! Read about my visit with mum here.

I have to say it was my favourite part of the holiday, inside this unusual and crazy building it was breath-taking and serene, even with the huge crowds.

The windows on the west are done in reds, oranges and yellows to catch the evening sun.

The windows on the east side are done in blues, greens and turquoise to catch the morning sun.

(Why does Blogger do this? the next photos are back to front!) We went up one of the towers for some amazing views and then another look around inside, I could have stayed there all day! It really must be the most photographed building sites in the world!!

Eventually we pulled ourselves away and walked to La Pedrera, another of Gaudi's creations.

Then walked down De Gracia Passeig to Casa Batllo and Casa Amatller

and Casa Lleo Morera

And then back down to the Gothic part of Barcelona.

After walking over 23,000 step we had a drink in Placa de Sant Miquel, behind the City hall.

Then we decided to head back to the hotel for our evening meal.

After such a huge photo heavy post I think a part three of our adventure is needed!
