A lazy Sunday

A lazy Sunday today.
After last Saturday when the sun was out and we went for a lovely walk (see last post) Yesterday was almost as sunny so we decided not to waste it.
But first let me show you some photos from our walk last Sunday. It was a bit grey but warm, we decided to go to Saddleworth.

First stop Uppermill, to Buckley's Bakery.

Then a little walk in the village before a walk in the woods on the hill.

Above is the gate to the library 

St Chad’s House and gardens – which now

serves as Uppermill Library and the park, were

originally owned by the Shaw family occupying

the site from the early 18th century. The farm

was rebuilt in 1798 and in the 1840s the front

rebuilt by George Shaw who was a local

architect who incorporated various follies.

The site was renamed St Chad’s a name

it still retains.

There are some huge gravestones.

The drive home on Friday was wet and windy.

But as I reached the tops the clouds parted and we had sunshine.

And so we come to yesterday

We decided to travel to Wakefield

To visit The Hepworth.

Built on the River Calder.

I like the modern building

We had a lovely lunch in the cafe

it reminded me of our holiday in Cornwall in 2009 when we visited Barbara Hepworth's studio and garden in St Ives (post here)

Across the busy main road is the Chantry Chapel.

remember the sun?

yes we were lucky and had sun last weekend........looking at the weather these past few days it is hard to remember what the sunshine looks like with more local flooding here.

But enough of the rain, lets have a look at what we got up to last weekend.

On Friday evening a group of friends descended on a friends house armed with a dish for the meal (I took Sicilian  lentils) lots of laughs and eating and drinking.

Then Saturday was the most beautiful sunny day.

I spotted this butterfly in the garden and dashed out with my camera. I took lots of photos of it as it fluttered from flower to flower.

then from no where Lucy pounced on it!.....it got away and fluttered off into next doors garden a little shaken!

I took some photos down to the village Conservative club to enter them into the village Michaelmas Show.
 I had intended to bake a cake the night before but I went out instead!

Unlike previous years the home grown produce was very thin on the ground.

and I won a trophy for one of my photographs!!!!
The theme was 'Gateway' here is the photo that won.

After the excitement of the show we decided to go for a walk.

We walked along some local lanes we have not explore before.

Low Cote a Grade II listed farmhouse dated 1631 with a dovecote above the doorway

We walked passed this very old farm.

We saw a green woodpecker but I couldn't get a good photo of it.

I wore my new hat I bought from Landbaby at the Bluecoat in Liverpool.
