My Easter Bonnet

In your Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it,

You'll be the grandest lady in the Easter parade.

I'll be all in clover and when they look you over,

I'll be the proudest fellow in the Easter parade.

On the avenue, fifth avenue, the photographers will snap us,

And you'll find that you're in the rotogravure.

Oh, I could write a sonnet about your Easter bonnet,

And of the girl I'm taking to the Easter parade.

Lyrics by Irving Berlin
(Oh and I won the staff competition...judged by the children which was lovely and my prize?

......a chocolate egg of course!)

Sewing Sunday with Janet Clare

Sunday
I was up early (for a Sunday) and as I drove out of the village in the fog at 8.30am I was just a  little excited.
I was on my way to Worksop. To Hope and Elvis to be exact. To do a workshop with the fab Janet Clare.
As I pulled off the M1 the sun came out and I arrived just a little delayed by the fog.

After a quick cup of coffee (made for me by the delightful Diane my blogging buddy) Janet showed us some basic techniques on the sewing machine.
Drawing with a sewing machine is such fun!
We all made a sample piece.
First we practised our names
Then faces

Then a row of houses
Then an appliqued house

Trying to keep the line going is quite hard but lots of fun!
Then that was it. We could play!
Louise's studio is a wonderful place, full to the brim of beautiful and inspiring things
Janet had brought some of her own work for us to look at too.

Louise, Janet and Debs were on hand all day with help and advice.
....as was Diane.

I really enjoyed the day and working with a sewing machine that can do free machine embroidery. (my old thing doesn't let me drop the feed dogs)
I made a row of houses

Diane made a post card from St Ives

and these are some of the other lovely things made on the day

I also made a start on a Kitty cat piece.

on a lovely soft pink blanket. I want to frame it when it's finished and put it in the spare bedroom.

When we left ....and the time flew by...the sun was still out and I stopped to take some photos of the pretty setting the studio is in.

I didn't want the day to end!

Saturday.

It was very foggy at home but Hubby informed me it was going to be sunny in Saddleworth so we decided to go for a walk there today.

First we stopped at the Chip Shop in Delph, Hubby use to get his fish and chip suppers from here when he was a lad!

He was right, the sun was out. We sat overlooking the Cricket Club to share some chips.

We then parked the car and walked along the Huddersfield Canal.
The canal goes from Ashton to Huddersfield, and they are doing some restoration work on it at the moment.

Legacy of Industry along the canal.

There are 74 locks along the length of the canal.

We got to Diggle and the Standedge tunnel.

We walked back along the lane towards Uppermill.

The old mills we passed earlier on the other side of the hill.
Then we arrived back at the car park.

Reflections light up the tunnel

Then we called in at Buckley's Bakery to pick up some Jam Slices.

And I had some sewing and crochet to do tonight and an early night as I am off to Worksop tomorrow!
