We had the most marvellous weekend!
Shhhhhh don't tell anyone but I am not actually from Yorkshire but this weekend I was proud to live here and proud of my adopted home county.
So, friends came over the border from Greater Manchester on Saturday evening and we started the weekend with a lovely meal at our favourite restaurant in the village.
The evening sun was shining and it felt like we were all on holiday.
Then after a hearty breakfast on Sunday we followed the crowds walking towards the village centre.
Then we had a decision to make. We had planned to walk up Ripponden Bank which is a steep climb and thought it would slow the riders down a little so we could actually see them pass.....
But we managed to get a spot in front of the pub which gave us quite a good view of them coming down Rochdale road from Crag Vale and doing a sharp turn in front of us before dropping down then up Ripponden Bank......
We decided to stay put. The above photo was the start of Ripponden Bank and the crowds were already pretty deep.
First came the caravan of sponsors floats...
Chucking freebies from the back, it was fun watching grown men wrestle over the cheap merchandise falling to the ground!
Then the first few riders came down Rochdale road
Then the peloton a few minutes later.
A sharp right turn and up Ripponden Bank to see who would be King of the Mountain.
Followed by a few spares.....
It was over in a flash!
We made our way back through the village as our friends needed to be in Manchester that evening and as the roads were still closed it meant a long journey for them.
But we had the most wonderful weekend spent with lovely friends in a beautiful place watching a well organised and exciting event! Well done Yorkshire!

The Grand Depart is in Yorkshire
On Sunday the 6th July it comes right through our village.
Thousands of people are expected and we will walk up to try and catch a glimpse as they speed through.
I of course will be taking my camera and will take lots of photos (weather might be a bit hit and miss but we won't let it spoil the atmosphere.)

So we are half way through April.
What have we been up to so far?
There was a trip to Halifax.....just usual shopping and mooching really.

I do love Halifax, it is great for shopping and the buildings are wonderful if you just look above the shop fronts.
I ordered my reading glasses.
Hubby and I attended some dear friends 25th Wedding Anniversary party.
we did Easter crafts at school before we finished for the Easter break.
We have had some lovely mild weather....honest!
While I have been off work I have spent a few hours taking a few photos of the garden and local sites.
The village is getting ready to welcome the Tour de France, Grand Depart coming through on the 6th July
My old apple tree had one of its limbs removed in the hope we can save it.
In fact we had lots of trees in the garden cut back, it is so much lighter now. We have a dream for the garden but it involves a lot of money and effort....we have neither at the moment!
