March Scavenger Hunt

I really struggled this month!
and ran around like a mad thing this afternoon trying to catch up.

This is my grandmothers tea service. She was given it as a wedding present in the late 1920's. I love it because it was used on special occasions and the gold has worn in places. The red is so bright and I have never ever seen another like it any where!

A collection

I collect Woods Ware. The green is called Beryl, the yellow is Jasmine and I have just purchased my first Iris cups and saucers (a beautiful blue colour) from Patchwork Harmony. They are in the pantry so not on display but I do use them. You can get hold of the green Beryl ware quite easily, I think it was because it was used by the NHS in the 60's.

A Ring

 My engagement and wedding rings. Hubby bought my engagement ring before he asked me to marry him and I loved it. The wedding rings are the same striped design.



A Shadow

 You will see this later this week as I have used it in my 365 Project. I had to stop the car as I drove past a local park one morning.

A Lion



A beautiful golden lion on Rochdale Town Hall.

March came in less like a lion and has been more like a lamb all month. We have had some beautiful weather. The lambs are not out in Lancashire or Yorkshire I am afraid, so here is my ONE BIG CHEAT!

 The frogs and toads were making a lot of noise the other night. I caught this one by surprise when I went to take a photo of the frog spawn on Sunday.
We have been busy sorting and unpacking boxes over the weekend and I will do a post during the week.

I just need to say that I appreciate ALL your comments and I always try to reply to you if I can. Blogger won't let me have any more followers for some reason, maybe they don't believe any normal person can possibly read that many blogs!

One evening last week I went to Rochdale after work. I have mentioned Rochdale's fine Grade 1 listed Town Hall before but I thought I would show some photos of the beautiful building to you today.

(I also found something for the March Scavenger hunt too, which is looking a bit thin at the moment!)

Built in the Gothic Revival style and opened in 1871

The Town hall was designed by William Henry Crossland who won a competition held in 1864. It had a 240 foot clock tower topped with a wooden spire and a gilded statue of St George and the Dragon.

The tower and statue were destroyed by fire in 1883 and a new stone spire and clock tower was designed by Alfred Waterhouse and erected in 1888.

It also has stained glass windows designed by William Morris.( You can see some photos I took inside and posted last year, here.)

The building came to the attention of Adolf Hitler during World War 2, who was said to admire the building so much he had plans to ship it back to Germany brick by brick if they invaded Great Britain.

The Joiner came and put the shelves in the sitting room yesterday. We can get our books out of storage next week and I can start to fill them. He has done a lovely job and the colour of the light oak is perfect for the room.

Hasn't it been a beautiful weekend? Lots of sunshine. Shame I didn't manage a walk in it but I was unpacking things from the storage place and trying to find room for them in the workroom.

Day of silence

I won't be posting tomorrow because I will be joining in the Bloggers Day of Silence. I have already made my donation to the Red Cross for the people in Japan.

I'm not a great fan of public displays of giving but this seemed a good way of getting as many people as possible to be aware of the Shelterbox scheme. Shelterbox send boxes with essential supplies such as tents, blankets etc, which feels like a practical way to help. I'm joining in and won't be here tomorrow....

Fieldhouse Old Hall

 I want to share this weeks 365 Photos and also tell you about a day out we had last weekend and also a little bit of exciting news.

We went for a walk locally. I said, we had better put on out waterproof coats as we had had on and off heavy showers all morning, Hubby said we would be ok without.......

But the shower didn't last too long and we didn't get too wet!

 It was very windy one day when I was driving home. I just had to stop and take a photo of the grass trapped in the fence and looking like a rag rug!

My thoughts have been with the Japanese people this weekend and I made a paper crave this morning. An ancient Japanese legend says if you make 1000 paper cranes the Crane will grant you a wish. Sadako Sasaki was a 2 year old Japanese girl when the atomic bomb was dropped near her home near Hiroshima in 1945. In 1955 she was in hospital with leukemia when she started to make paper cranes in the hope she would get her wish to get well. She managed 644 before she died and her family and friends completed her task.

There is a statue of Sadako in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, holding a golden folded crane.
