Taken on a day out to Southport with my mum and my sister. We had fish and chips and a walk along the pier, it was a glorious sunny day, just right for a trip to the seaside (although it is always hard to actually see the sea in Southport!)

Lady Lucy's Walk.

A Right Royal Wedding!

Arhh, didn't she look lovely?

I would not call myself a Royalist but I do believe the Royal family are an important part of our heritage and makes us as a nation what we are.

I was not going to spend all day watching the wedding,

I was going to maybe take a peek at the dress,

 have a nosey who was on the guest list and the outfits they were wearing,

and then I was going to do some gardening.

 But I found myself being drawn in and before long I was taking photos of the ceremony

and then hubby had to make some bacon butties as I was unable to drag myself away from the TV!

The pageantry was something special.

The British know how to put on a Royal Wedding, I'll give them that.

I am sure those that are interested will find much better photos of the day than these but I thought I would share them anyway.

And if your not in the least interested in the goings on in the capital today, I hope you still enjoyed your day doing what ever you decided to do.

Random things

You don't know how many times I have tried to post this, Blogger is driving me crazy, here goes, third time lucky!!!
Well the sun seems to of disappeared for now but we can't complain, we have had the most glorious weather in the past couple of weeks.

I thought I would do a random sort of post today. We had some paintings framed and now they are up in the hallway.

The other evening we went for a walk

We walked up Bar Lane towards Ryburn Reservoir.

Up the steps at the side of the dam but then we turned away from the water to walk along the top footpath.

and up even more steps

The leaves are unfurling.

Back towards home past remnants of the old mill.

Last Saturday, when all our visitors had gone home, Hubby and I decided to walk in the local wood to see how the bluebells are coming along.

The bluebells were there but many were still in bud, one more week and they will be at their best.

We will return next weekend to see how they are going.

You can believe the fairies live in these woods, they are magical.

I had a lovely gift in the post the other day too.

It was a lovely note book from Judith Glover. She very kindly sent it to me because I had put her link onto my blog and consequently she had received a few more visitors.

Temple Newsam

Because of this post on Heart shaped and this post on Apples and pears, Hubby and I decided to change plans for today. We did not go to Wentworth Castle Gardens, we went instead to here

Temple Newsam just outside Leeds.

The Hampton Court of the North, Famous for being the birthplace of Lord Darnley, husband of Mary Queen of Scots in 1545.
There has been a house on or near this site for nearly a thousand years.

It has an inscription in the balustrade running around the top, originally in stone letters cut in 1628, but replaced by the present metal ones in 1788.

ALL GLORY AND PRAISE BE GIVEN TO GOD THE FATHER THE SON AND HOLY GHOST ON HIGH PEACE ON EARTH GOOD WILL TOWARDS MEN HONOUR AND TRUE ALLEGIANCE TO OUR GRACIOUS KING LOVING AFFECTION AMONGST HIS SUBJECTS HEALTH AND PLENTY BE WITHIN THIS HOUSE

But before we went into the house we decided to walk around the garden.

The greenhouse in the walled garden was built in 1788 to grow the soft fruit. Now it houses some fantastic floral displays.

Pelagoniums growing as climbers.

I can imagine the rose garden outside is fabulous in summer.

At the end of the greenhouse was a National Collection of Auriculas,

so pretty in their theatre.

Then we walked up to have some lunch before visiting the Home Farm.

There were lots and lots of babies to stroke.

My favourite was the lambs but Hubby loved the piglets, they were very naughty and kept fighting over mummy.

and some escaped into the yard.

You could quite easily spend the whole day just at the Home Farm.

some were having a bad hair day!

There are loads of little buildings everywhere, the laundry, the smithy, the farm office and the unmarried men's bedroom.

Then we thought we had better drag ourselves away from the cute animals and have a look around the house.

The rooms are really well furnished.

My photos are a bit grainy as I took them without a flash.

Then we finished by walking around the south side of the house.

Perfect end to a lovely day. Do you know I took over 200 photos today, so this post could of been VERY MUCH LONGER!!!!
