October

We are nearly at the end of October. 

Make yourself a cuppa and grab a biscuit, pull up a chair and lets take a look at what I have been up to this month. 

I was ready for my half term. Every day is mentally exhausting at school. Restrictions and rules to follow, if it is difficult for us adults it must be baffling for the children.

 

I take my planning time at home on a Monday morning

Our harvest Festival this year was recorded by the year six children and played to the rest of the school in their classroom bubbles. The vicar organised a Harvest Festival Hunt in the church yard (not on the graves!) for each bubble which the children enjoyed.

We have not had many lovely autumn days this October, lots of grey and damp ones.

Still the garden has been a source of joy for us.

We picked apples, tomatoes, kale, cabbage, runner beans and until very recently still had the odd strawberry or two!

I was drying leaves for school. Reception class have a tray the teachers fill with various sensory materials and they thoughtt leave would be good....I have plenty of those!

We did manage a lovely autumnal walk one weekend.

Through the wood opposite our house...

although we had to go the long way around as the path had turned into a small stream in some parts.

Great views of the village nestled into the valley below...

We then dropped down into Triangle and back along the main road.

We saw some deer on the way back down the hill. I tried to upload the short video I made of them as they ran away when we disturbed them but it wouldn't load.

Another short walk was around Rishworth one evening...

As a school we had a day of activities to coincide with the release of 'The Promise'  You should get the link here or type in BBC Seed the promise. 

We had nature walks, nature tables, wand making and biscuit leaf decorating.

after watching the film I remembered this...

a post from May 2018 on my Instagram. An acorn I found buried by a creature in one of my pots of bulbs and trying to grow. 

I potted it on and...

This is the sapling now...

I hope to plant it in November at the edge of our playing field at school.

This was the last tiny sunflower we had this year.

I also popped over to see my mum and we took the dog out to Hale Park and Pickerings Pasture.

And so we come to the half term holiday....

Fate took a hand and I am self isolating at home because a child I was teaching tested positive in the last week at school, this means I have been stuck at home this half term holiday and will be at home until the beginning of November!
