A very special time

Earlier this month Hubby and I celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary.

In the half term we were lucky enough to spend a few days away celebrating...let me tell you a bit of a background story first...

On the 2nd of November 25 years ago Hubby and I got married at 12.30pm at St Thomas Church Newhey (little did I know that a few years later I would start work at the church school just down the hill.)
It was a damp blustery day but the rain stayed away and the sun even peeped through for us occasionally.
We enjoyed the reception at Scaitcliffe Hall in Todmorden (all boarded up now I believe) with our family and friends and it was so wonderful.
In those pre-internet days organising a wedding and honeymoon took a little longer with phone calls and letters...I know! but three places were in the running for the honeymoon. Kinnaird in Scotland, Summer Lodge in Dorset and Burgh Island in Devon. For some reason, long forgotten we decided on Kinnaird in Scotland....in November!
Roll on 25 years and we decided to finally make a long awaited trip to Burgh Island to celebrate our wedding anniversary....
We have known each other since 1988 when I walked into the studio at Courtaulds for my first day at work, we quickly became friends and the rest as they say is history.

We started at Brixham. Staying one night then onto Burgh Island for two nights and one night on the way back at Worcester.

The morning we left Brixham was very drizzly and dull.

But as we arrived at Bigbury-on-Sea the sun came out!

It is such a wonderful experience...we parked the car in the private car park on the mainland then we were picked up and taken over the sands in a 4X4 to the Island (it is actually a part-time island as the tide cuts it off twice a day from the mainland)

Champagne was waiting in the Palm Court while our luggage was taken to our room.

View of the Pilchard Inn from our balcony

After we had looked at our room we went for a look around the hotel and the island.

A picnic lunch from The Pilchard Inn
This is the Sea Tractor that takes passengers across the water when the tide is in.

The Huer's Hut

The Mermaid Pool

Before we changed for dinner we had a trip across the water in the Sea Tractor...

Then it was time to dress up!
My dress is from Nancy Mac and it was lovely to wear...

Pre-dinner cocktails in the Palm Court...
I don't normally put photos of us on here but this was such a special occasion!
We had dinner that evening in the Nettlefold Restaurant

and we had a game of billiards in the billiard room!
The next morning we woke to the most beautiful sunrise.
Morning coffee on our balcony

Time to go down for breakfast...

The Ballroom laid out ready for tonight's dinner

Lunch on the terrace.
Then a walk along the beach

That evening we dined in the Grand Ballroom being entertained by a three piece band

Then it was time to get the sea tractor back to the mainland and head for our next destination.

We stopped off at Knightshayes.

Then a little wander around Worcester the next day before heading home.

We celebrated our 25th Wedding anniversary in style I think!
