So Saturday was forecast wet......very wet.
But when we woke it was grey but still dry.
After a lovely breakfast with delicious home made marmalade, we decided to have a look around the garden before it started to rain.
We spotted a deer in the woods but it was too quick for me and my camera!

We got the ferry over Windermere....by which time it was chucking it down!
The showers came and went all day.
We were on our way to Troutbeck, to visit Townend a National Trust Property (as it was too wet to go walking!)
There was evidence of Halloween scattered around the garden and outhouses.
The house dating back to the mid-15th century stayed in the same family for over 400 years.
You are allowed to take photos inside without a flash.
And inside the Halloween theme continued.
The house is actually a farmhouse. It belonged to a family called Browne.
They lived at Townend for over 400 years until 1944.
The last male Browne was George (1834-1914) who was a successful sheep farmer, scholar and enthusiastic wood-carver.

He had three daughters, Lucy, Clara Jane and Katherine.
I loved this patchwork quilt.

The sun came out as we left but there was also rumbles of thunder.
We then went to Bowness for some late lunch.
The rain came down!
and when we got back to the car there was a lake next to it!
Did anyone notice that there seems to be a lot of orange in the photos of post?
We drove home that evening after a lovely break in the Lakes to celebrate our 17th Wedding Anniversary.
