Remembrance

October and November were a time of Remembrance. (a long post)

The call went out from our local Church and so I got to work on some crochet poppies

Then I attended a few evenings at the local community centre helping sew poppies onto netting....

 Then on the last Sunday in October we went along to see the rising of the Falling Poppies

 In the end they had over 17,000 poppies so the church was also decorated inside too

It looked fantastic!

Back in September we also started to plan our own Poppy Installation in our Church connected with school.

 Each class made poppies and the church community got knitting and making crochet poppies too.

They were sewn on first then... 

Then the rest were attached using a glue gun

I also made 24 organza poppies to make pew ends to commemorate 12 of the local men who died in the 1st World War, they all had a connection to either our church or school, some were ex pupils

We were very happy with the results!

Rochdale made a great effort with Remembrance this November too.

 We attended an Evening at Touchstones on the eve of Remembrance day. Folk Trio, Harp and a Monkey playing some fantastic World War 1 songs.

We also went to The Imperial War Museum North to see this exhibition and the Poppy Wave.

In Halifax the Remembrance umbrella's got broken in the gales we had at the beginning of November!

Then we attended the service at the memorial in the village and in church on Remembrance day.

We also did some research at school and found the addresses of some of our local fallen heroes and the children wrote letters to the present occupiers and made poppies with the men's photos on to post through the letter boxes. We had a lovely response from the village and they appreciated the gesture.
